Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team (HEVT)

During EcoCAR 3 Year 3 competition in May, the team suffered a center bearing failure on the driveshaft. Although HEVT confronted many obstacles, we were able to secure 6th place overall. HEVT is gearing up for the Year 4 competition, where teams will be judged on a fully reliable hybrid vehicle where handling and performance will present an important role. As the only team with a V8 engine, we are confident to create a powerful yet an innovative vehicle.

Your donation will be used for solutions to finalize the design of the hybrid vehicle:

1) Reinforce the floor pan to secure the motor

2) New mount design for our custom motor to reduce vibration

3) New vehicle suspension to improve ride and handling

We strongly believe even a small donation will make a difference in the result of the project. As we move into the last year of the EcoCAR 3 competition, we are aiming to exceed our expectations to improve the experience of students in the team.

The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team (HEVT) at Virginia Tech has been an avid competitor in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTCs) for upwards of two decades. Under the esteemed leadership of Dr. Douglas Nelson, guidance of General Motors (GM), the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and continued support of all local sponsors, HEVT has accentuated the academic engineering experience of over 700 Virginia Tech students. Currently, HEVT competes in EcoCAR 3, a four-year competition that challenges teams to re-engineer a Chevrolet Camaro into a fully functional hybrid vehicle with the goals of reducing petroleum energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining safety, performance, and consumer appeal.  HEVT is committed to challenging its students to apply knowledge in unique ways in order to create cost-effective and innovative solutions to sustainable transportation issues.

Thank you so much for considering HEVT for a donation, as we try to make EcoCAR V8 Again!
