Description

VT String Project Baby Basses!

The award-winning VT String Project (VTSP) has received matching funding from the Classics for Kids Foundation (CFKF) to purchase two 1/8 size double basses! CFKF is providing an award of $1,848, and we need to raise an additional $1,848. Double basses are more expensive than other string instruments because of their size. Owning these small-sized or "baby basses" will allow us to get them into the hands of our youngest students with financial need, who want to learn the double bass. Your gift today allows us to give the gift of music for years to come!

What parents are saying about VTSP:

"Living in a rural area, access to quality classical string music education can be limited. The VT Strings Project not only fills this gap but also breaks down financial barriers, ensuring that our children, regardless of their economic circumstances, has the opportunity to pursue their musical passions. Through scholarships and innovative funding solutions, the program democratizes access to the arts, enriching the lives of countless families in our community. The social impact of the VT Strings Project is truly remarkable."

“I can’t believe how much my child has learned in one year. Amazing job, teachers!"

“My child doesn’t enjoy sports so this has given him a way to connect with other kids and I've seen his confidence grow so much. Performing has really helped him be more comfortable in front of people, something he struggled with in sports.”

“It's wonderful to see how much he's learned; he has been picking out songs he's learning on the violin on a keyboard too. It's like a whole area of his brain has opened up!”

The fingerboard is where we put our fingers to play different notes, melodies, and in the case of basses, often the baseline! Did you know that commonly, bass fingerboards are made of ebony, a very dense and hard tropical hardwood?

German or French, these are the two types of bows that bass players use! Did you know we are ordering German bows for these new "baby basses?"
