Make a Gift in Memory of Steve Galligan '81
Name a Seat in memory of Steve Galligan '81
Steve Galligan (BS '81, MBA '83) was a proud technician and truck driver for the New Virginians from 1979 to 1984. Before his passing in October 2024, he reminisced about his time with the group as being some of his best memories throughout his 66 years. He participated in multiple other musical ensembles while at Virginia Tech, including the Choral Union and the Studio Singers. Steve was able to travel all over Virginia and beyond thanks to his involvement in music.
Steve's love for travel continued after graduation. After a few years in food service management, he remembered how much he enjoyed driving a truck for the New Virginians and went into long-haul trucking, working for Schneider for 36 years.
Steve lived his life in service of others. "'Ut Prosim - That I May Serve,'" he texted his wife and daughters after the New Virginians' 50th anniversary celebration in 2022. "That’s Virginia Tech’s motto. I guess that’s kind of how I try to live my life. Saw it in the stonework in several places on campus today and was reminded of it."
While on campus for the celebration, Steve and his fellow New Virginians alumni got to explore the Center for the Arts. Steve loved being back on campus, and he was very impressed by the new performing arts facilities. The New Virginians and Virginia Tech gave a lot to Steve, and he wanted to give back to them. His family is raising money in his memory to name a seat in the Center for the Arts after him, and we would love your assistance in making this happen. Music was Steve's happy place, especially music at Tech, and having a seat in the auditorium would give him a place to forever enjoy it.
Thank you for the music, thanks for the memories, and we appreciate your help in honoring Steve.
