My platform “Serving Pink with Sarvani” focuses on Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. My platform aims to expand the knowledge and support for this incredibly important cause. One in eight women are diagnosed every year. Early detection saves lives, breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early, before it has a chance to spread. Regular self-exams and mammograms can help catch breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. This issue being specific to women is also incredibly important. As someone who has had multiple women in my family affected by breast cancer, the mental toll is just as real as the physical. Without awareness, we cannot know what to look for as signs of the malady. Without awareness, it is hard to understand the struggles that these women might be going through. Without awareness, it is difficult to gain support for research.
I am working in support of the Schiffert Health Center here at Virginia Tech. I am also working closely with the Virginia Breast Cancer foundation for education and fundraising. Schiffert Health Center, our on-campus health care center, aims to provide quality health care to all students. My platform will focus on giving students the resources to be aware of their own health and to know where they can seek medical care such as providers like Schiffert.
Gifts will go towards Schiffert Health’s support on research and education and will benefit all students involved. Until one in eight is none in eight.
Thank you in advance for your gift!
Gifts are critical to continuing to provide financial support to departments. Help us help other Hokies!
As our local students celebrate homecoming, help us make Blacksburg feel more like home with a gift.
Current seniors who make a gift of $5 or more to this project will have their gift count as their Senior Class Gift. Gifts of $25+ will receive a commemorative mug and graduation cord as a thank you from the committee. More information can be found about the Senior Class Gift and mug/cord pick up times by visiting https://www.alumni.vt.edu/young-alumni/gift
