Thank you for visiting The Recovery Community’s Homecoming page- Homecoming 2024 is over but the celebration doesn't have to stop there! Please consider supporting this organization by donating at give.vt.edu.
Lifting Loved Ones with Lucia is about supporting the friends and family of people with substance use disorders. As loved ones struggle with substance use, the community around them struggles too. Spotlighting stories through an educational support night, this platform aims to show people that they are not alone and that there is strength in community.
I chose this platform because of my family's experience watching a loved one go through recovery. When we think about substance abuse, we often focus on the recovery and prevention aspect of it but it's also important to recognize that as a loved one struggles, their community is struggling too.
The Virginia Tech Recovery Community works to ensure that students do not have to choose between their recovery and their education. They support students inside and outside the classroom, organize events and trips, and provide space for recovery meetings.
Launching one of Virginia Tech's newest LLC's, the Roost is a dynamic Living-Learning Community for individuals in recovery from a substance use disorder, those exploring diverse recovery concepts, and students advocating for recovery. Additionally, they offer the "Loved Ones In Recovery" weekly support group because they recognize that the damage caused by a loved one’s use affects everyone that cares for that person.
Lifting Loved Ones with Lucia is partnering with the Virginia Tech Recovery Community to expand the resources on campus because all members of the family and care team deserve to heal, recover, and feel supported.
Gifts of any amount will go towards supporting the Recovery Community’s work with those with substance abuse disorders and their loved ones, and will make a difference in the experience of the students involved.
Thank you in advance for your gift!
