Dominating Depression with Dom and Cook Counseling Services

My name is Dominic Hanna, as a member of the 2023 Homecoming Court I’m running on my platform DOMinating depression. My goal is to decrease the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and make the Virginia Tech and NRV communities a place where men feel more comfortable being vulnerable with their emotions. I chose my platform because of my own experiences with mental health and because of the ongoing crisis in men’s health. On average we’re dying 5 years earlier than women and suicide is one of the leading causes of this crisis. A man dies of suicide every minute and 69% of all suicides are men.

We’re fortunate to have Cook Counseling as an amazing mental health resource on campus and their partnership with TimelyCare provides free 24/7 access to virtual health and well being services designed for college students.
