Support the Diversifying Science Mentor Program!

The College of Science’s Diversifying Science programs are a collaboration between the College of Science and university wide inclusion and diversity efforts and initiatives. Through partnership we work to coordinate a comprehensive program that advances the College of Science’s efforts to recruit, retain, and invest in students from populations who have been historically marginalized, under-served, and under-represented in science. These programs are partially funded by the generosity of donors. Your support is critical to our peer mentoring program, events, and emergency funding, which all help to enrich science through increasing diversity. Become a part of our efforts to support students by making a contribution today towards our goal of $5000.

Right now, we have a special opportunity for your gift to have an even greater impact. Susan Haymore, Director of Undergraduate Advising in the College of Science, will generously donate $1,000 to Diversifying Science if 50 donors support this campaign.

Learn more about how your gift makes an impact with our highlighted programs below.

“I just wanted to say a quick thank you for holding events such as [the Undergraduate Research Mixer], it really helped me to actually find a research position (starting next week, very excited) that I would enjoy! I hope that you all keep holding events such as those in the future, as they are a huge benefit to those who properly take advantage of them!”

Through the Diversifying Science Peer Mentoring Program, students are assigned to small pods of 3 first-year students with one upper-class mentor. The pod of students meet weekly to discuss their transition to college and how to be successful science students. A gift of $20 can sponsor the cost for a mentor to take their mentees out to dinner or coffee throughout the semester.

“[My mentor] is SUPER supportive, always has information readily available or researched it if I needed it. She always made me feel super comfortable and I couldn't have been happier with our meetings! I feel like we were always productive during them, whether we were talking about something academic or personal.”

Our Diversifying Science team has an event almost every week of the semester to build community and academic connections for students. We have community nights with each of our Cultural and Community Centers, workshops with the Office of Undergraduate Research, and our capstone event, the Undergraduate Research Mixer. A gift of $80 can cover the cost of a community night to build a sense of belonging among our science students.
