Virginia Tech is committed to supporting students through innovative approaches to wellbeing. To ensure students have access to the resources they need to achieve their goals, we are opening a new mental health and stress management space on campus, the Cook Counseling Serenity Space - and we need your support!
Mental health and academic performance go hand in hand, which is why we believe in taking an integrative approach to student success. Overall wellbeing can boost energy levels, mental clarity and concentration, resulting in improved academic performance. While academic success can elevate students’ emotional health and self-esteem.
Cook Counseling's Serenity Space will be an area to welcome students into the counseling center, offer a transitional space in and out of counseling sessions and provide resources to help students center themselves. The space will be equipped with tools for meditation, relaxation, yoga, and other centering activities. Students will be able to drop in during business hours to a space of tranquility, welcomed by a water feature which will transform the space into a healing environment.
Biofeedback equipment will also be available to help with physical and mental health, helping to ease stress. This equipment regulates heart rate and breathing patterns, reducing anxiety. There are also plans for a quiet corner, designed to support neurodiverse students by reducing overstimulation and assisting with mental and emotional balancing.
Your generous support will fund supplies and equipment for the Cook Counseling Serenity Space to give Hokie students the spaciousness and centering they need. With your help, we'll be able to offer students subscriptions to wellness apps which teach calm, guided meditation and happiness which that they can access anywhere for up to 1 year.
As a small token of our thanks, those who give $5 or more will receive a Doodle booklet, filled with blank doodles and bookmarks for you to color and enjoy.
Thank you for helping all Hokie students thrive!
