Support Kayla Hess and Sigma Kappa - Homecoming 2022

My sponsoring organization is Sigma Kappa. Sigma Kappa is a Panhellenic Sorority that believes in committing ourselves to one another, the causes we believe in, and a shared dedication to seeking intellectual, spiritual, and social enlightenment throughout our lives. Living with heart makes us more compassionate individuals, leading purposeful lives rooted in a strong sense of character and values, which ultimately makes us who we are. Gifts of any amount will go towards supporting Sigma Kappa's sisterhood and will make a difference in the experience of the students involved.

I am running on the platform of men's mental health. I understand the mask of it all. I allow people to think that I am the embodiment of confidence, sunshine, and positivity. However, inside my mind, it’s a different story. It took me a while to come to terms with mental illness, and with having recently lost two men to suicide, I knew something had to be done. My platform is Mental and Suicide Awareness in not only everyone, but men especially. Men have been taught their whole lives that they can not be vulnerable because it shows that they are weak. “Why are you crying, you're acting like a girl” is something I heard people say to men all of the time, and I have decided enough is enough. We have to teach people that it is okay to not be okay. If it doesn’t get taught now, it may never will.
