Our goal for this campaign is to raise funds for the Corps' archival collection, spotlighting two important sets of documents.
Help us preserve the original and earliest known copy of the hand-written articles of incorporation for the Student Government Association. The papers outline the provisions and rules required for cadet student oversight of classmates, including the breakdown of the composition of the Honor Court still in use today. Discovered hidden within the walls of a home in eastern Maryland during a remodeling job, they were donated to the Corps Museum collection. The papers have been examined forensically and are determined to be written around 1908.
The second document that is featured is the original telegram sent by the War Dept. to Jimmy Monteith’s mother that informed her of his death during the D-Day Invasion. Monteith received the Medal of Honor for his heroism and sacrifices and is one of eight alumni recipients of the nation’s highest honor. He is truly a symbol of everything the Corps stands for and achieves to emulate.
As Virginia Tech approaches its Sesquicentennial Celebration, the conservation of documents like these that are foundational in Virginia Tech's history take on a new importance. Please help the Corps of Cadets preserve our past for future generations!
