Our Mission:
The Diggeridoos are developing a revolutionary way of reinventing travel infrastructure through the design, analysis, and manufacturing of an innovative micro tunneling machine. Tunneling machines have hit a stagnation point in their development over the years, but the Diggeridoos have set a goal to revitalize innovation in the industry by making micro tunneling faster, cheaper, and more efficient. Our team strives to help reaffirm Virginia Tech as a trailblazer in engineering and entrepreneurship on the global stage.
Who we are: 
We are a team of Virginia Tech students chosen as 1 of 12 internationally selected teams out of over 390 applicants to compete in the 2021 Not-a-Boring Competition hosted by The Boring Company. We emerged from the 2021 competition as one of five award-winning teams, and we were selected to participate again at the 2022 Not-a-Boring Competition. The Boring Company is a company founded by Elon Musk with the long term goal of solving the problem of traffic by building 3-dimensional transportation infrastructure.
We have designed and will soon be building a tunnel boring machine to dig a tunnel 100 meters in length and 0.5 meters in diameter. While this is an exciting challenge, we cannot do this alone. We need your help finding the resources to complete this challenge. This project is very time consuming and very financially intensive. We do not have nearly as many resources that some of our competitors do, which is why we are looking all across the nation for people to help us achieve our goal. That being said, we are looking to you for your help.
Why dig tunnels:
The current market valuation for the tunnel boring industry is approximately $3.3 Billion USD, with an estimated growth to $4.7 Billion USD by 2027. Exploring the development of tunnel boring machines is a step in the right direction that will help our team at Virginia Tech contribute towards the reinventing of transportation infrastructure as we see it today.
How you can help:
We need your help in funding the purchase of materials and components that will be directly implemented in the build of our designs we have spent months refining. Additionally, your gracious contributions will help to facilitate equipment transportation to the competition as well.
