4-H programs are grounded in the belief that youth learn best by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture and civic engagement, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Youth can concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4-H experience.
The 4-H Summer Camps provide youth between the ages of 9 and 13 with programming designed to learn through experiential education and character development. 4-H camping is cooperative group living in a natural environment which focuses on the individual's social, spiritual, mental, and physical development for both boys and girls. Since 4-H camping is educationally focused, it is recognized as a method by which to deliver 4-H programming. These camps involve trained professional staff, as well as highly skilled adult and teen volunteers in working with and supervising all campers.
We have educational programs to address whatever interests our campers have. The camp experience provides an introduction into the club and educational programs that are also provided in the local 4-H programs.
In Dinwiddie, we had 229 participants in our Dinwiddie 4-H Junior camp for the year 2020, and the cost of camp steadily rises and becomes too expensive for some families. Many families are also sending multiple youth to camp and making payment plans or seeking sponsorship. We want camp to be as affordable and accessible as possible for everyone that we can because we believe that 4-H camp changes lives. 4-H camp empowers youth and gives them a voice. 4-H camp provides a safe place for kids to be themselves and just be a kid. So join us in supporting 4-H camping in Dinwiddie County because thousands of youth have already benefited, and we want to reach thousands more.
Donations at this level will be used to help alleviate the costs associate with volunteer training. All camp volunteers must receive a minimum of 24 hours of training. This can be both costly in time and financially especially for the teens who serve as counselors and CITs.
Donations made to support the teen counselors will help subsidize their costs to attend camp and make it a wholesome environment for our campers. Teen Counselors are critical to making camp safe.
This donation will cover some of the cost for campers and families that need a little help paying for camp.
This donation will provide funding for one youth to attend the Dinwiddie 4-H Junior Camp.
Each year we try to host an overnight training for our teen counselors to practice team building and learn the in's and out's of being a camp counselor. This is costly activity for our teens and many cannot afford the cost of the various trainings.
