My name Melanie Bomberg and I have the privilege of being on homecoming court this year sponsored by Chi Omega. My platform is eating disorder awareness! Eating disorder awareness particularly relevant since 10 million men & 20 million women in the United States will be affected at some point in their lives (NEDA).
I’ve always wanted to give back to the eating disorder community, since it has had such an impact on my family. Being on homecoming court has allowed me to raise awareness and promote eating disorder recovery in ways I couldn't have imagine. I've formed relationships with health professionals and am in the works of planning a community wide therapeutic dinner. I’ve also had the privilege of meeting & hearing the experiences of fighters within the Hokie community.
With your help I will be able to fund a community wide therapeutic dinner in which a dietitian will guide participants through appropriate serving sizes, eating intuitively and better understanding the role emotions and cognitive processing play in eating.
The primary goal of my campaign is to raise awareness about eating disorders and encourage Hokies who may be struggling to seek treatment. I’m hoping throughout my campaign I am able to increase understanding and decrease the stigma surrounding eating disorders.
