The Allen Bachelder Trumpet Scholarship supports the work of talented trumpet students at Virginia Tech. Past graduates of the Virginia Tech trumpet studio hold positions in professional performing ensembles, teach at major universities, excel as public schools teachers, or in a variety of careers in music and beyond. Bachelder scholarships are given each year to both incoming and returning students to both reward and attract top musical talent. Your gift will go directly towards supporting a young person as they pursue their musical goals.
The Bachelder Trumpet Scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Allen Bachelder (pictured below with scholarship winner Elizabeth Kania), Professor of Trumpet at Virginia Tech from 1977-2006. In his nearly 30 years on campus Prof. Bachelder mentored countless young musicians, the Bachelder Scholarship was established not only to honor his work but to sustain his legacy.
Your gift will go directly towards supporting the education of a young musician. While scholarship dollars are applied to tuition, these awards often free up funds to allow students to purchase new instruments, attend summer festivals, and travel to auditions. In this way receiving a Bachelder Scholarship can truly be a life-changing event for a student.
You can contribute to the scholarship fund in several ways:
1. Make a tax deductible gift via the links on the right hand side of your screen.
2. Share a link to this page on social media, invite your fiends to invest in the next generation of Hokies.
3. Attend the Virginia Tech Trumpet Festival. This year's event will be held in Blacksburg on September 28-29 and will feature Allen Vizzutti! Contact Dr. Crafton (JCrafton@vt.edu) for more details.
No matter how you choose to support this campaign, please accept our sincere thanks. By investing in the future of the arts at Virginia Tech you're helping to ensure the future of our university and the legacy of Dr. Allen Bachelder. Your gift, no matter how big or small, will make a difference.
Small gifts can have a big impact. A contribution as small as $5 can help a Bachelder scholarship recipient buy school supplies or travel to an audition.
Every semester the average music students spends $50-75 on music. Etude books, solos, chamber music repertoire are all expensive, a gift at this level can help defray that cost.
Our students have big dreams. Graduates of the Virginia Tech Trumpet Studio routinely gain acceptance to world's finest graduate programs. Your donation at this level can help offset the cost of one of these applications.
Professional trumpet players need, on average, around $20,000 worth of gear (instruments, mutes, cases, fancy Pickett Brass mouthpieces, etc.). A gift at this level can help a student get what they need.
While Bachelder scholarships can come in varying amounts, a gift at this level goes a long way towards sustaining the legacy of both the trumpet studio and the Bachelder Scholarship. Just two gifts at this level will sustain the scholarship fund for another year.
While Bachelder scholarships can come in varying amounts, your gift will ensure that Virginia Tech can continue to attract and develop talented musicians from around the country. A contribution at this level ensures that at least one award will be given to a talented student for the 2019 school year.
