Good Afternoon Everyone!
We just wanted to write to update on the end of our campaign. With the generous support and contributions from so many we not only met our $5,000 goal but we passed it! The generous support and contributions from 83 donors led us to raise $5,275. We cannot thank you enough. It was because of the power of community and the support of friends, colleagues, students, faculty and staff, alumni, and community members that we celebrate this tremendous success. I also wanted to note the contributions of the Communication 4304 Public Relations capstone class who did much behind-the-scenes work and handled our communications. Because of you all, this scholarship is a reality and will provide leadership development opportunities for LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students during their time at Virginia Tech.
Even though the campaign is over, we are still fundraising through a Highway 55 Percentage Night. Highway 55 is a restaurant located in Blacksburg at 775 University City Boulevard. A percentage of all sales made today (11/8/17) and tomorrow (11/9/17) between 5pm to close will go towards this scholarship fund. Last night on 10/18/17 we reached $1,000 for this fundraising campaign. As of right now we have $1,050 from 18 donors. Thank you!! There are not enough words to express the gratitude to those 18 of you who have donated. Thank you for investing in LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students at Virginia Tech.
We are in the latter half of our campaign and we excited to see where we will be by the end of this campaign. There is still plenty of time to donate! So if you have not had the chance to we appreciate anything you might be able to give.
In addition to the work of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, an extra thank you is deserved for group of students we are working with from the Communication 4304 Public Relations Capstone class. They have been hard at work: thinking of creative ways of reaching out to people and organizations to donate, researching the LGBTQ+ Resource Center and fundraising strategies, and creating content that we have shared to raise awareness about this campaign.
