Conrad Cavalry begin in 1972 as an equestrian unit of the Corps of Cadets. Initially the unit was founded for people who love horses and wanted to bring their love of horses to the Corps. Recreational riding is what the unit was formed for and there it stayed for many years. In Spring of 2017 the current troop embarked on a mission to re-create the cavalry with a larger purpose.
This mission has two objectives. The first is to actively promote the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets in the public sphere as good-will ambassadors. The second is to individually explore how our partnership with horses and with one another can strengthen our resilience, our focus, and our leadership skills.
From our present troop size, it is our goal to grow our membership by one-hundred percent in Academic year 2017-2018 so that we may reach our target of twenty riding members. This number will ensure that we have enough membership to pursue our mission fully, enabling us to work to become a cavalry unit worth representing the Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech.
As such, with the funds raised we would like to offer supplemental need based scholarships to members. Additionally, these funds would be used to purchase much needed gear for riders and horses and allow members to compete and represent the University and the Corps at an elite level.
