What are we doing?
We are beginning a new tradition. As VT students, we were driven to empower students to give back in a new way. We aim to create a tradition of supporting future Hokies through a philanthropy campaign each year. The first of its kind in 10 years. This will be entirely student-driven.
Football games, Relay for Life, Ring Dance, and the hundreds of other traditions make Blacksburg and Virginia Tech one-of-a-kind. We want everyone to take part, and add, to these experiences, but many can’t due to financial difficulties. In our first year, we are funding a scholarship to support a low-income and underrepresented student attending Virginia Tech. Next year, you can choose who and what to support.
Venmo, Tilt, Kickstarter and so many more online platforms to give and support others. Using the Virginia Tech’s new crowdfunding platform, students can actively support things we believe in regardless of place or time. It empowers us all to create movements beyond a booth on the Drillfield. It empowers to unite virtually as a community. Our campaign will also have a physical presence on campus.
Where is the money going?
President Sands recently established the Beyond Boundaries Scholars program, a one-to-one match for current-use gifts to Virginia Tech to create operating scholarships for high-achieving students and students from underrepresented groups. This will double the impact of our scholarship through one-to-one matching. But, more importantly, it will provide immediate support for our efforts to lower barriers to highly qualified and underrepresented applicants.
Opportunities for Students:
Become an Ambassador!
What is an ambassador?
Ambassadors can join the team, becoming relays as we reach out to every student. This includes sharing information about the campaign on social media and coming to the booths and working with other students to talk with students. Also, we will be looking for interested students to run next year's campaign!
To become an ambassador, please fill out this survey!
You can also contact Grey Weissend (email@example.com) or Jack Crockett (firstname.lastname@example.org) to join the iSupport team.
