Stand Up to SUD Stigma with Sarah, was inspired by my older sister, Kate, whose substance use disorder journey began while she was a student here at Virginia Tech. She transformed a challenging situation into a source of light by starting the VT Recovery Community. My platform aims to eliminate stigma, recognize current allies, and build new ones for those in recovery. I am encouraging students to learn how to administer Narcan, the overdose reversal medication, and to promote allyship! I am partnering with Virginia Tech Residential Well-being to ensure that every student feels safe and welcome on campus; while also promoting early education of Narcan administration. This past year, ONEbox kits equipped with Narcan were installed in all residence halls. It is extremely important that students know how to properly utilize these kits if a situation were to occur. Together, my platform and Residential Well-being will protect the safety of current and future Hokies!
Gifts of any amount will go towards supporting Residential Well-Being’s work with establishing safe environments and education for students and will make a difference in the experience of the students involved.
