Support The Women’s Center | Homecoming 2024

My platform, Consent with Courtney, emphasizes consent education and support for sexual assault victims. The goal of my platform is to spread awareness of consent culture here on the Virginia Tech campus and make resources on campus more known. My passion stems from being a sexual assault victim myself and not knowing how to find help. Sexual assault should not be a part of anyone’s college experience, however it is unfortunately a part of far too many students’ stories. Spreading awareness and getting victims the help they need is the first step in making a change.

I am excited to partner with the Women’s Center at Virginia Tech. The Women’s Center is a great resource for all students on campus. I had the opportunity to work with The Women’s Center after my assault, and I could not find a more caring environment. They work hard to provide support for all genders, ethnicities, abilities, races, and ages. They help advocate for victims and provide them with resources on how to move forward after assault. Their programs and services are rooted in principles of anti-oppression, anti-racism, inclusivity, intersectionality, feminism, trauma-informed care, and social justice. The Women’s Center at Virginia Tech see these values as a process, a practice, and a goal.
