Providing Meals with Megan and Campus Kitchen

My platform, “Providing Meals with Megan,” supports expanding food access in our community, the New River Valley. My platform aims to help expand access to healthy food resources in this area where over 20,000 residents of the New River Valley community live in low-income, low-access areas where residents struggle to access affordable and nutritious food. The thought of not knowing where your new meal is coming from is a scary, stressful situation to be in, and after seeing how it affected others in the community, especially people close to me, I have been motivated towards spreading awareness about expanding food access and creating a difference for the people it affects.  

I am working with Campus Kitchen at Virginia Tech which is a partnership between VT Engage and Virginia Tech Dining Services to increase food access by redistributing unserved food from on-campus dining to hunger relief agencies in the New River Valley. As of today, they have diverted over 263,000 pounds of quality, unserved food from campus to the community. My platform and Campus Kitchen connect by having mutual goals in expanding food access for our community!
