Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity
The Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) and the programs it provides to recruit, retain, and graduate engineering students are partially funded through the generosity of donors. Your support is critical to keeping CEED active in its efforts of hosting initiatives like the C-Tech² summer camp and peer mentoring program with the goal to enrich the engineering profession through increased diversity. Become part of the future of the engineering profession by making a contribution today in an effort to help us meet our goal of raising $8,500.
As a current parent of an engineering student, Charles 'Chuck' Conway '92 has seen the impact of CEED first-hand. To help support this summer’s six weeks of camps, Chuck will donate $500 for every week that one 12-passenger van is covered (up to $3,000), or for every $560 donated.
Learn more about how your gift makes an impact with our highlighted programs below.
"I loved being able to meet the professors of VT, along with fellow girls passionate in engineering/STEM. Learning a little bit about a lot of engineering disciplines allowed me to confidently leave C-Tech knowing what major I would pursue."
C-Tech² offers an opportunity to learn about college life—from residence halls to classrooms and everything in between. It provides access to information and technology necessary to best prepare you for your future. The C-Tech² program targets rising junior and senior high school young women. A gift of $80 rents a 12-passenger van for one day for all camps, including C-Tech², to transport them to off-campus sites such as the Hokie Stone Quarry and Drone Park.
"[My peer mentor] was incredibly helpful with my transition to the Virginia Tech engineering program. He gave me tons of valuable information regarding engineering and my future here at Tech. I looked to him for advice and guidance many times over the duration of the program. [He] was a great Team Leader!"
Through the CEED Peer Mentoring Program, students are assigned to a small group of about 10 first-year students and one upper-class mentor. This group gets together and talks about typical first-year issues – finding campus resources, connecting with faculty, exploring undergraduate research, and asking any questions you have about getting connected on campus. A gift of $18 can sponsor the cost for a mentor to take his or her mentee out to dinner three times during the fall semester.
