Support Olivia Escalante and Alpha Chi Omega- Homecoming 2022

The sisters of Alpha Chi Omega are an embodiment of beautiful and genuine women with extraordinary achievements, hopes, and dreams.  Alpha Chi Omega prides itself in enriching the lives of its members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning, and service. As my sponsoring organization, they support my platform while they continuously strive to fulfill their own philanthropy surrounding the Women's Center of the New River Valley. Gifts of any amount will go towards supporting Alpha Chi Omega's sisterhood and will make a difference in their work surrounding the Women's Center of the New River Valley.

Three days after my 17th birthday, I was diagnosed with an incurable hearing impairment which quickly altered how I had to interact in life. I was faced with not knowing if my condition would get worse and if I could maintain my hearing for my lifetime. I took this negative and turned it into a positive as I created my platform “An Ear to Hear”, where I promoted the educational awareness of Invisible Disabilities, (how to assess for audio and visual conditions) and how to end the social stigma surrounding it (through developing educational material for children and adults in my community). I personally noticed that academically, I was set up for my future; however, socially I was missing out on milestones (social interactions) in my life while feeling I was alone due to this newly discovered impairment. It was when I learned that my experience with my Invisible Disability is not uncommon! Invisible Disabilities range from Autism, POTS, Diabetes all the way to ADHD, Anxiety, Depression and PTSD. No student should feel alone just because their disability is not able to be seen above the surface which is why I want to be the voice to bring the Invisible Disabilities community into the conversation here at Virginia Tech and someday nationwide. Focusing on these students' necessities and being more adaptive towards students with “Invisibilities'' will not only make our campus stronger, it will further our message to thousands of students that truly THIS IS HOME.

I am so thankful for all the work my Alpha Chi sisterhood has devoted to me so that I can support my fellow Hokies and continue my future work for the Invisible Disabilities community.

Thank you in advance for your gift!
