Sigma Kappa’s platform “Alcohol Aware with Ali LeMair” connects students to campus resources so that students can gain information regarding laws, policies, and rules surrounding alcohol consumption — risk-free. This information is invaluable: it allows students to make more educated decisions and act in the interest of safety and community when faced with a problem.
While the benefits are undoubtedly quite valuable, starting this conversation is a tricky thing to do on a college campus where approximately 70% of students are underage. Students are intimidated to ask questions that could tie them to their actions. The money raised though this campaign will go towards incentives for attendance at the event that will double as encouragements for students to act safely if and when they choose to drink. These will include gift cards to Uber, Lyft, and numerous restaurants in downtown Blacksburg.
