Women’s Preview Weekend is an overnight experience for accepted female students in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. During their stay, participants will get an inside look at the Living-Learning Community for female COE students, Hypatia.
Along with learning more about this community, guests will tour many of the engineering labs on campus and make their own keepsakes in the engineering studio, located inside the dorm that houses Hypatia. Participating students will walk away from the weekend will an in-depth introduction to life as a Virginia Tech Hokie and new memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
WPW happens in the spring semester. All women offered admission to the College of Engineering are invited to visit Virginia Tech (during the same weekend as Hokie Focus and Gateway). The weekend includes various presentations from university and College of Engineering faculty, staff and administrators, in addition to laboratory tours and discussion sessions. The goal of this program is to increase the yield for women who accept the offer of admission to the College of Engineering. Future students are hosted by current students living in Hypatia, the engineering residential community for women. They spend the night in the residence hall and each future students will have a host (current) student assigned to them. These students are not only paired by major but by their activities they are involved in.
There is no cost to the future student other than travel to/from Blacksburg.
